Dear Members

I think the summer is here!! Or shouldn’t I have said that??

I personally would like to thank you all for renewing your membership with Collingtree Park and for showing your commitment to the club for another year. I would also like to welcome all of our new members, I do hope you enjoy your membership and meet new friends.

Well, let’s enjoy this fine weather for now and play some great golf. I do hope you can all see the improvements made out on the golf course, and now that the growth is kicking in the course will play well and also look great.

The season has certainly started, I would like to remind all my members of the 18 day tee booking facility you all have and ask that you all try to use this. I can understand the frustration of not being able to play the course if you call 1 or 2 days before. Those who wish to see what events/ group business we have for the month please take a look at the notice board outside the pro shop which will give you all the information.

Course update.
Winter rules are now rescinded.

The 11th Bunker is now complete and back in play (thanks!). The rest of the bunkers will be addressed and additional sand added.

Over the last few weeks the greens and fairways have all been fertilized, which is now kicking in. This will encourage the growth and also improve the playing surface. Starting on May 17th, we will be spraying the golf course which will prevent the weeds and moss growing that we have suffered with for a number of years. Again this will enhance our golf course.

The Greens are starting to look great and play well, however more work is still needed, so please bare with the green-keepers over the next couple of weeks as they will be scarified (the aim of scarifying is to produce a healthy vertical type growth of desirable grasses, to improve the turf surface and appearance) and top dressed to help with the putting surface.

Greens/Clubhouse
New summer menu’s have been introduced in the bar and within Greens Restaurant so please try them and pass on your thoughts! Please also remind your friends and family that they are also welcome within Greens and the bar area for lunch or dinner even if they don’t play golf! You can book online at www.greens-restaurant.com or call 01604 663963.

Iain Tait, Mary Wetherly & Tom Maher – Captain’s Update
Greetings to all renewed and new members joining CPGC! And what a great start we’ve had to the playing season with the weather being very kind to us all and encouraging new growth all round the course.

Drive-In
The year got off to a great start with the Captain’s Drive-In fielding a great turnout of 104 players. The competition was won by Ray Connolly and his team of 3 expert junior members: Ryan Murphy, Aiden Rosling and Dec Brandley. Our thanks to all those who attended making a memorable last day of Club Captaincy for Dave Messom and also a memorable first day for me. Special thanks to Geoff Pook for helping the whole day run smoothly.

In addition to having a fine day’s golf, £365.08 was raised for the local Club Charity for this year: Autism Concern. In addition, the Seniors Open held on the 20th of April which raised a truly outstanding amount of £1,675. Our thanks go to the Senior Section, but in particular Anthony Langley. The day was outstanding and enjoyed by all.

As a result of these events CPGC membership has raised over £2000 for the Charity already – well done. To keep the momentum going can I remind all members that it is our tradition at Collingtree to put £1 in the charity box on the bar if your ball finds the water on the 18th. Also, if any one has an event or ideas of how to raise funds for the charity please let me know.

Forth Coming Events
Les Pullan Commemorative Trophy. This is a new fixture for the club and is in memory of Les Pullan, our former Club Secretary and friend to many. The competition will be held on Bank Holiday Monday (3rd May) and is an 8am shot gun start. The format is for teams of 4, with best two stableford scores counting on each hole with all four scores counting on each of the par 3s. This competition is open to all sections, but there is a maximum of two juniors per team. As time is running out to register for this competition, please call the Pro Shop to enter if you are unable to go to the club this weekend.

Pub Quiz Night, Thursday 20th of May in the Bar. Teams and individuals are invited from 8pm. Adrian Rooney has once again agreed to host the evening, so beware adult themes are highly likely! Watch out for the posters in the clubhouse!

Slow Play
Can I remind you all that slow play is to be avoided at all times. More than 2 hours for 9 holes and 4 hours for 18 is unacceptable. As golfers we all have a duty to honour this. Avoiding Slow Play is written on the score cards of our club and just about every other club scorecard. At the recent competition on Saturday 24th there were at least two groups that fell 3 holes behind, which should never happen. This resulted in at least one group of members retiring from the competition, which is unfair. I have asked the Competition Committee to monitor slow play and if necessary introduce actions to penalise offenders.
As you all know we do not have course marshals, so this needs to be monitored and abided by all of us. If your party does fall more than one hole behind the group in front then you are expected to make way for groups following you when requested to do so.

Junior Update
The Easter holidays saw 5 junior competitions with an average entry of 16 including 2 new girl junior members. The first main junior colonial competition was won by Dan Wilkin with an impressive 39 points. Also equally impressive was Lucy Martin who won a mid week stableford on her first attempt. Well done to Dan Messom, Aiden Rosling and Ryan Murphy who all represented Northamptonshire during April. Our goal is to increase our junior numbers so please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our junior coordinator Mark Cotton if you fancy a go at playing.

Congratulations
